Letting Go of Outcomes
They Are Not Our Business
One of the hardest — and most freeing — lessons I’ve been learning in prayer is this:
Outcomes are not my business.
I can show up. I can pray. I can do the work with as much love and honesty as I’m capable of. But the results — when they happen, how they happen, whether they happen the way I imagined — that part belongs to God.
The Freedom of Release
In Centering Prayer we practice letting go of thoughts, returning again and again to the sacred word. That same movement of release is being asked of me in daily life — to offer my best effort and then release the need to control what happens next.
It doesn’t mean I stop caring. It means I stop tying my peace and worth to results I cannot guarantee.
A Simple Daily Practice
“Lord, I offer this to You.
I release the outcome.
Your will, not mine.”
Some days the letting go feels light and freeing. Other days it feels like a quiet struggle. Both are okay. The important thing is the returning.
Piece by piece, my hands are learning to stay open.
And in that openness, something deeper than my limited plans keeps surprising me with grace.
